"It was a bomb blast in a fruit truck that wounded more than 30 people," provincial Punjabi government spokesman Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan said. Other sources said at least 39 people were wounded during the terrorist attack with no group claiming responsibility so far.

Haider Ashraf, deputy inspector general of police, said the truck was loaded with explosives and experts were combing through the wreckage.

"Allah has saved Lahore from big destruction," Ashraf told local media.

Following the explosion, a large contingent of security forces personnel reached the site of the incident and cordoned off the area.

Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) personnel also started a search of the area to ensure clearance from any explosive material.

The police official added that it is suspected that the truck, which was damaged during the explosion, contained explosive material.

'We do not know as of yet what has caused the incident in Lahore," said Punjab police spokesperson Nayab Haider.

A nearby three-storied building housing a school collapsed due to the intensity of the explosion.

Earlier in July, at least 26 people were martyred in a suicide attack in the Ferozepur area of the provincial capital. The suicide attacker had targetted a group of policemen.
