Sheikh Issa Qassem: We will not give up our demands and we will not be dragged into sectarianism

9 Dec 2011 06:42

Bahrain (Islam Times) - Sheikh Isa Qassem said during the Muharram remembrance sermon that "any equivocation or circumvention of our political demands is a desperate and vain attempt that will never break us; the Islamic Sharia law is our first and only ruler."

He added, "Have you not yet realized the extent of our public spirit for sacrifice and redemption, our commitment to the rituals and the truth of Islam?”

Sheikh Qassem stressed that "the plan to convert this mighty popular political movement to a sectarian is an insult to the nation’s intelligence.
Our four fundamental parameters are as follows:

- Do not compromise human rights or political demands.
- Respect religious rites and holy shrines.
- Fight sectarianism
- Keep up the peaceful demonstration.

“Today, our nation reminisces the time of Al Hussein and fights in the name of liberation. If people were to truly abide by the Imam’s teaching, we would have heaven on earth. Our union strives for justice, dignity and integrity, and the welfare for our people.

He refuses to be governed by an absolute doctrine or represented by a sole tribe. Instead he considers the nation, a place of coexistence for an entire population. We will keep fighting for political reform and correctional policies.
