A former French intelligence officer:
The Syrian crisis awoke the Russian Bear
Assad is staying and our political position will change
Islam Times - A former officer in the French foreign intelligence services (A –D) is betting that with time the French Authorities will be able to correct the many errors it committed in dealing with the Syrian crisis for almost the last two 2 years .The officer who has just returned from a private visit to Beirut (he refused to confess to entering Syria and his meeting with a number of security officials) The errors according to him were as follows.
The Syrian crisis awoke the Russian Bear
Adhering to the American project there that is allied with the Islamists without taking into account the interests of historical France in Syria.

Abandoning the Syrian treasure trove of information that has protected France of numerous terrorist attacks throughout the past years.

The Bet to topple the regime of Bashar al-Assad without taking into account the interests of the Russians which unleashed the Russian bear that has been a fierce defender of its interests which resulted in a new cold war where the fragile French interests around the world are threatened.

The French Loss of the strategic political and security cooperation with Syria which at its maximum effect can lead to a great chaos in the Parisian streets and suburbs inhibited by close to five million Muslim men and women.

What could the former security man be doing in Lebanon and close to the Syrian border?

Another expert in western security policies answers “in your country and after retirement an intelligence officer becomes either a farmer or an intellectual writer or a mad man or a merchant but In France a retired officer like (A - D) becomes a paid or a volunteer researcher for many consulting firms that gives advice to either the opposition forces or the regime and sometimes even to both.

This current field researcher (former officer) believes that the errors committed by the French authorities are considered both strategic and foolish as they have sided against the Syrian regime in a no win situation because even if the Syrian revolution prevails and triumphs the spoils will all go to the Americans and if it fails France will bear the largest back lass of the regimes staying in power after it defeats the fighters supported by Nato and the Gulf States.

And on the previous cooperation between the French and Syrian agencies the former French officer says:
Differences and political escalation between France and Syria is not the problem, there is no fixed animosity or cemented friendships between countries those elements are conducted according to the national interests of each respective party which determines the kind of relationship between them in this case the bigger loser is definitely France for its loss of the significant security and intelligence cooperation with Syria where France was always the bigger beneficiary of that cooperation.

He adds, the Syrian security services have rescued the French people several times from disasters where French terrorists of Arab origin were about to conduct terrorist acts in many French cities and it was only the information given to the French authorities by Syrian intelligence agents that saved those cities and protected the lives of French citizen’s from certain death and mayhem.

He continues, up until the beginning of the crisis there was complete cooperation with the Syrians who were regularly meeting with their French counterparts going after international terrorists together but the short sight of the French forced the Syrians to suspend that joint effort and who could blame them, and he asks Is it reasonable for France to place on their list of sanctions such notable officers the likes of ( Colonel Hafiz Makhlouf) who was wounded while defending the American and French embassies attacked by terrorists in Damascus” Just imagine a man saving your child’s life is rewarded with such an act” and instead if saying (Thank you) the French placed the Syrian diplomats inside France on their arrogant list of non-desirables and even labeled them as terrorists .

The French officer adds, this Syrian officer (Colonel Makhlouf) and other leaders have carried out missions in the past years with positive impact that was not limited to Syria alone but rather had a positive effect for the French people and others in the east and west alike and I will not be divulging any secrets when I state that Colonel Makhlouf was the recipient of many (Thank you ) letters  sent to him by the largest European pharmaceutical companies for his role in combating counter fitted medicines where he had destroyed many of those factories as well as his constant pursuit of major drug dealers who were securing their products from countries like Afghanistan thru Syria and Lebanon to try smuggling it to the west and specially to France ,such individuals were placed on the French list of sanctions instead of showing our gratitude for their efforts as the pharmaceutical companies have done.

The French officer continues, through the security cooperation with the Syrians and especially with a one unit commander operating in Damascus and its surroundings{ A man related to president Assad) we received valuable information leading to the detection of a  scheme in 2008 that was destined to kill thousands of French citizens in the Paris subway  the Syrian intelligence got that information after the arrest by Colonel Makhlouf of the leaders of a large al-Qaeda operatives that was on its way through Syria to Lebanon and its airport headed to France for the implementation of that process those arrests included some of the most dangerous Al-Qaida operatives the likes of { AymanAl Daher} nicknamed{ Khalid AlKashif and Abdullah Azzam} (Not the infamous historical Al Qaida Leader) and {Ghassan Abu Al Kasab} and{ Abdul Hakim Qasim} and {Noman Almendo} and {Laith Badran} (Jordanian) and the most dangerous eastern terrorist ا ever{Assad Houreyaa} commander of the Paris Metro operation which if was allowed to be executed according to the way it was planned would have resulted in the death of thousands of French citizen’s an operation that took many years in planning  by leaders of the Al-Qaida’s international network.

The French security delegations were semi-resident in Damascus and met regularly with their Syrian counterparts the question now becomes will the Syrian agencies continue their counter terrorism efforts with the French? That effort was geared to save French civilians and we placed those heading that task in a list of sanctions and prevented them from ever entering France, was there any logic to this? When the French think that returning the favor to Syria becomes in supporting those same terrorists we both fought together and in light of the fact that the Syrians protected us from many terrorist operations while we now support and finance those same terrorists was a wise political policy?
Finally the question becomes can those with similar views as this officer change events on the ground?

The French source says: Yes you can a lot of sensible people in the French agencies can influence the future of political decision making of the French especially after the European countries failure in their quest to repeat the scenario of Libya in Syria, and the Russian position will contribute to support those in France and put pressure against others who are completely on the side of the American plan  in light of the facts revealed on the ground about the strength of the Syrian regime to prevail as well as the strategic support of the Russians which will not seem to waver or change and most importantly we ought to change our positions in France because it’s in the best interest of the French people and not the Syrians.
