Kobani Kurds foil ISIL attempt to cut off border with Turkey

Kurdish official Idris Nassen said the ISIL members launched a fierce attack from the east towards the Turkish border on Saturday before being repulsed.
 
The terrorists are said to have suffered heavy losses in the fighting and were forced to send in reinforcements.
 
Heavy fighting is currently underway between ISIL militants and Kurdish forces in Kobani, also known as Ain al-Arab, and black ISIL flags are seen flying in some districts of the town.
 
Turkish military has also positioned its tanks and ground forces on the other side of the border to beef up security.
 
Meanwhile, several fresh airstrikes carried out by the US-led military coalition have struck ISIL positions in Kobani.
 
On Friday, a Kurdish military commander, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Kurdish fighters managed to force out the ISIL militants from most parts of Kobani. He expressed optimism about the possibility of liberating the entire town in the near future.
 
Kobani and its surroundings have been under attack since mid-September, with the ISIL militants capturing dozens of nearby Kurdish villages.
 
The ISIL advance in the region has forced tens of thousands of Syrian Kurds to flee into Turkey, which is a stone’s throw from Kobani.
 
Turkey continues to block any delivery of military, medical or humanitarian assistance into Kobani where the ISIL terrorists are feared to be aiming at massive bloodletting.
 
Analysts say Ankara, having already won the US green light, plans to let the terrorists seize the Kurdish town of Kobani before sending tanks and troops to fight them in a bid to capture and possibly annex the Syrian territory.
 
Meanwhile, Washington has moved its base from Jordan to Turkey to train radical extremists who are fighting the Syrian government.
