Pakistan's Ruling Coalition Leads in Senate Elections

4 Apr 2024 01:50

Islam Times - Pakistan's ruling coalition led the elections of the senate, or the upper house of the country's parliament, held on Tuesday, an official source said on Wednesday.

According to a source from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the ruling alliance parties including Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) won 14 seats, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) got 13 seats and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan secured one seat, Xinhua reported.

The elections were to be held for half of the 96-member house across the country, including the capital Islamabad and four provinces.

However, the actual elections were held on 19 seats after 18 members won unopposed before the voting and the ECP postponed polls for 11 seats in KP due to the incomplete provincial assembly as several members had yet to take oath.

The ECP is yet to announce the official results but results calculations show that the ruling alliance will be leading the house while former prime minister Imran Khan's party will play its role as opposition.
