Iran closely monitors Balkans developments: Foreign Ministry spokesman
Islam Times - Iran Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Araqchi says Tehran closely monitors developments in the Balkans due to the importance of peace and stability in this important and sensitive region.
Araqchi welcomed “good practical” steps that Serbia and Kosovo have taken to resolve their conflict and differences through negotiations.

“This trend is progressive,” the Iranian spokesperson added, stressing the importance of promoting peace and tranquility in Serbia and Kosovo and other countries in the Balkans.

Regarding important progress made to settle the dispute between Kosovo and Serbia, Iran has put the necessity to adopt a position in proportion to the new circumstances on its agenda, he pointed out.

Following Kosovo's declaration of independence from Serbia in 2008, the two countries have had a series of territorial disputes.

Iran has constantly called on Serbia and Kosovo to resolve their territorial disputes through direct dialog.
